HOW TO FIND YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

In this blog, I will help you to figure out your OWN classic style which in retrospect will enable you to build your own capsule wardrobe.

There are 3 points which you should always keep in mind while finding your personal style.

  1. Timeless

  2. Fit of the garment

  3. Colour palette

Our Style always evolves with time, age and the stage of life we are in. Sometimes, we look into our wardrobe and think that a lot of clothes do not fit us or are not our style anymore. It happens to most of us. So, I always stress on time to time purging, trying on all your clothes to check the fit of clothing pieces you own and then finally keeping crème de la crème.

This exercise will help you in figuring out your style and what you absolutely DO NOT love anymore. We have inspiration all around us and with the gift of visual stimulation, you can also figure out what styles you usually lean towards. Movies, the red carpets and fashion shows are a great source of inspiration when it comes to fashion.

*Before I begin this blog, I would like to point out that there are no rules when it comes to fashion. This article is not about what to wear and what not to wear, instead to help you get clarity and streamline your personal style.

Let’s discuss the three points I mentioned earlier.

  1. Timeless

  2. Fit of the garment

  3. Colour palette

Timeless

With the emergence of social media and the easy accessibility, It has become quite easy to find out different fashion trends. But, here I would like to burst the bubble and say that trends are transient.

If you love fashion then trends do catch our eye, but, the key is balance and being intentional with addition of ‘trendy’ pieces in your wardrobe. Have pieces in your collection that represents you, silhouettes that are timeless and classic, pieces that will not go out of “fashion” in a blink of an eye. Mix trendy pieces to your existing classic style and create that balance to give your outfits more modern approach.

FIT OF THE GARMENT

Now, the fit of the garment is crucial. Not all garments are made bespoke and hence, you have to take matters in your own hands. A good fit garment makes the outfit looks quite polished and chic. Having said that, sometimes you cannot help with the dimensions you are blessed with.

For instance, I am vertically challenged and as a petite girl most of the times the garment doesn’t fit me as I want it to fit and for this particular reason do not be shy to take your clothes to a tailor and get it fixed or even better if you have the skill to do it yourself.

I love wearing midi/maxi dresses during summers and carry them through autumn but most of the dresses on the high street are way too long on me.

So, I get it altered by the tailor and you will be surprised how much of a difference it makes. It instantly looks that it is made for you and trust me you will get a lot of wear out of it because the ‘fit’ of the garment will make you feel great!

COLOUR PALETTE

Unpopular opinion but I feel finding the colour palette is the most difficult of them all. There are neutral lovers and colour lovers and then there is a third category who love burst of colours in their outfits but do not want to commit to having lot of colours in their wardrobe. I am definitely in the third category. I go through the phases of ‘all neutrals’ and then adding pop of colours in my outfit. This is the reason why I always keep some colour staples in my collection. Just like this bubble gum pink button down cotton shirt from Zara.

Even when investing in coloured pieces I always keep them classic cuts and shapes like a button down shirt, a knit vest or a t-shirt as these pieces will not go out of style and I can always have the pleasure of wearing them time and time again.

As I already said previously that our style very closely depends on the stage of life we are in, so investing in all the trends is not the smart move when it comes to having that capsule wardrobe. Classic shape, cut and breathable good quality fabric are the points you should always keep in mind while shopping.

I have shared few of my pictures as an example and it is evident that my style is more leaning towards neutrals with pops of colour burst here and there. Experiment with your style till you figure out ‘what exactly is your aesthetic’ .
